Napa County Receives Money For Rent Assistance

The Federal Government has provided Napa County with 1.6 million dollars to help over 100 families with homelessness. This money will be used for rent assistance for low income families who could not otherwise afford rental payments.

In Napa County, the majority of people receiving rent assistance are in the Section 8 Program according to the Napa Valley Register. The current Section 8 Program in Napa Valley has a 3 - 5 year waiting list. Urgent low income housing needs are not met by the Section 8 list.

The money from this program will encompass more than just government payments. There will  also be counseling help from Catholic Charities, Napa Emergency Women's Services and the Napa Valley Shelter Program.

The time frame for assistance under the new Federal program is a maximum of 18 months of assisted housing. Proponents advise that this stabilization program will help families stay in their apartments as opposed to making them stay in homeless shelters, which can be rough situations for families with children.
